**The Mechanical Distributor Pump Era**
Utilized rotary distributor pumps or inline pumps, featuring a more compact structure. Fuel quantity and timing could be mechanically fine-tuned, and injection pressure saw a slight increase. Widely adopted in older trucks and agricultural machinery, though it suffered from poor injection uniformity across individual cylinders.


**The Electronically Controlled Mechanical Phase**
Built upon mechanical pumps by incorporating electronically controlled solenoid valves. This enabled electronic control over injection quantity and timing, significantly improving precision. It allowed for preliminary compliance with emissions regulations and served as a transitional stage between purely mechanical systems and fully electronic control.


**The Electronically Controlled Unit Pump / Unit Injector Phase**
Features an independent pump assembly for each cylinder, eliminating the need for long, high-pressure fuel lines. Injection pressures were drastically increased. This technology became the mainstream choice for high-horsepower heavy-duty trucks and construction machinery, renowned for its robust reliability and excellent performance under heavy loads.


**The High-Pressure Common Rail Era (Contemporary Mainstream)**
Combines high-pressure pump accumulation with common rail pressure stabilization, completely decoupling pressure generation from the injection process. It enables multi-stage injection—including pre-injection, main injection, and post-injection—and utilizes injectors equipped with individual correction QR codes. With pressures reaching 1800–3000 bar, it achieves a balance between low fuel consumption, reduced noise, and compliance with stringent "National VI" emissions standards; it has become universally adopted in both passenger and commercial vehicles.


**Future Trends**
Moving toward ultra-high pressures (3000+ bar), piezoelectric actuation, intelligent in-cylinder closed-loop control, and adaptability to hybrid powertrains and even more rigorous emissions standards—marking a comprehensive upgrade toward greater efficiency, lower carbon footprints, and enhanced intelligence.
